Auditory Reasoning 1.1

The Auditory Reasoning app, developed by a certified speech and language pathologist, is designed for students aged six and older who experience central auditory processing disorder (CAPD) or related conditions, such as receptive language disorder or autism. Its primary aim is to enhance auditory processing skills that involve reasoning and higher-order thinking. The app uniquely focuses on auditory skills, as all tasks are presented in an auditory format.

Visually, the app employs a vibrant, cosmic theme, which may capture the interest of younger users. A gamified reward system is integrated to keep students motivated while engaging in various activities, including:

• Identifying which item does not belong
• Making associations
• Completing series
• Distinguishing between true and false statements
• Identifying facts versus opinions
• Auditory resequencing
• Understanding meanings of words in context
• Solving analogies
• Tackling riddles
• Paraphrasing short paragraphs
• Drawing conclusions from short paragraphs

Notably, tasks can be conducted in environments with background noise, which can be configured within the app's settings, allowing students to simulate real-world auditory experiences.

The app is user-friendly and includes several administrative tools to facilitate effective usage:

• Add multiple students
• Adjust settings and utilize randomization features
• Designate varying counts for different students
• Choose from a variety of background noise types
• Monitor correct and incorrect responses
• Email and print results at the end of each session

While further research remains necessary in the field of central auditory processing disorder, it is evident that most individuals benefit from interventions focusing on both acoustic signals and language processing. Comprehensive evaluation alongside a multidisciplinary approach is crucial for effective treatment (ASHA 2005).
